Tensioner Failure at 7000 miles?
Getting a slight rattle from left side tensioner after putting in carerra update 7000 miles ago. It only happens when cold and lasts for about 15 seconds. Are these rebuildable, seeing how they cost about $250 each and don't really seem to last?

There is really nothing to replace except the check ball in the bottom if its leaking? but I don't know if you can even just buy that? They are pretty simple, they just keep a cushion of oil fed under the piston and vent excess oil out the other check ball, they even bleed themselves so you don't have to worry about air in there. The only other thing is if your chain is stretched and thats letting the idler arm is hit the chain box and keeping it from going tight.

Hopefully not the chain stretched at only 82k. I'll get into it in a few weeks and post pics. Only slight rattle at this point on cold starts after sitting a while. Sounds like the typical chain in can rattle.

Sounds like it leaking down when sitting then pumping up when you start it, You can put an internal stop in the tensioner which keeps it from full collapse but does not fix the problem with oil leaking out of it if thats what going on.

The Carrera tensioners are a non-sevicable part. The problem can caused by worn chain and sprockets "slapping" the tensioner untill it fails.
BTW, I am a fan of the 930 "updated" tensioners with chain savers because they can be serviced....but if your chains and sprockets are worn they too will not last.
