Fuch wheel anodize

I need some info on my Fuch wheel finish...I want to remove the black paint on the center section...Is the aluminum beneath it is anodize also...?
I want the petals to have the same finish of the lips...No polishing for me...but I like the anodize finish.

The ones I got...

The kind of look I want...

Yes. The wheels were anodized then dipped to get the polished paddle look.

If you strip the paint the wheel will not look like the one in the second picture. For those black centered wheels, the spokes were unfinished before they were anodized (since they were to be painted). If you take just the paint off the spokes they will have an uneven finish to them. If you want them to look like an early wheel they will need to be refinished, either polished or polished and then reanodized and then masked and painted.

You might be better off buying a set like you want and selling the ones you have... just a thought.

remove all paint and anodizing, tuoch up if needed, re-anodize. It's not that expensive.

Agree. It will not be pretty under there. Geronimo hit the nail on the head.

I agree with Dave as well... with all the work that you'd have to put into them, Al charges a fair price.

The point is, he'll "want" to remove the anodizing once the paint is removed. The finish will not be up to par with a polished paddle wheel so... the anodizing must come off in order to polish them properly (then reanodize).

That's what sixgt was explaining.

There is a TON of info here regarding wheel refinishing.
This process assumes the rim as well as the center is polished prior to anodizing. If the center isn't polished in anticipation of it being painted, removing the paint will reveal a different anodized surface finish.

Like many projects, the execution of the steps requires much labor relative to the short list of steps.

The point is... the wheel "has" to be polished before anodizing to get the look Syl is asking for. Anodizing "dulls" the finish. While he may say "no polishing for me" there's no way to get that anodized finish he's looking for without polishing. Ask me how I know.

To properly refinish a Fuchs the basic steps are as follows:

Strip
Deanodize
Polish
Reanodize
Refinish as desired

Once he strips the paint off he'll have a dirty anodized finish underneath. He "can" get his desired look but not without going through those steps. I'll try to find some pictures of my many Fuchs refinishing projects. Film at 11:00

Here's a good look at a painted center that has been stripped. Notice the "blotchy" appearance of the spokes.

Thanks Eric...That's the answer I was looking for. I will remove the wheel from the Carrera in a month for the winter sleeping/project time. I need to change the tires so I will get the wheels without them installed so it will be easier to work on them....Thanks eveyones.

Just my opinion but the first picture of the wheel looks as though it is near perfect - perhaps this set is too good to mess with? Why not keep them aside and buy a worn out old set to play with???

Agree, too nice to experiment with. Look almost perfect.

So few Fuchs look that nice.

That's why I suggested buying good wheels that you like and selling those to someone that really wants v. nice black center wheels.

You have to dismount tires no matter what you do.

Shoot, you might even come out ahead $$ doing this.

Looks like David took his balls and went home. Sorry David, wasn't trying to spar... just trying to get Syl the right info. You simply can't strip the paint and hope for a miracle in this case.

It makes for a goofy read on a thread when people pull that...

Syl, I agree with the others here. You have some nice wheels. Not the kind I'd experiment with. I'd suggest selling them and getting some nice polished paddles. They're your wheels so... do as ye please but they're in damn nice condition.
