911 1984 Replacement Gas tank.
Hello everyone , this is my first post on this site . Im looking to replace my rusted gas tank in my 911 1984 I hope someone can help out here with my questions , I want to buy new not second hand . Is there any pit falls on buying a re-pro tank ,I had a look inside to see a white plastic filter system plus all the rust . Are these tanks as good as the factory? any comments welcome.

Unfortunately, I recommend you source a good used one or cough up for a new one. The repro I picked up was thinner gauge steel, they had used parts from the bottom of an old tank, and I was very unimpressed with the quality of the metal stamping. Keep in mind the factory tank is very strong in a frontal impact, not something I could confidently say using my best judgement about the $400 (US dollars) repro tank.
Did I mention I was unimpressed with the quality of the metal stamping on the repro? Bleeech.

I think you can take it to a radiator shop to boil out and have it recoated inside and then repaint outside unless its rusted through which is not likely. Seems cheaper, better, stronger, original...?
Post a pic of your car and welcome. |

you cant boil it out or reseal it with por or eastwood products because it has plastic in it search for the thread the only way to seal a CIS tank is to cut it open remove the plastic clean it out seal it then weld it back together and pressure test. I have a tank thak would be good for that but have no one in the area that can weld it back together and test.

Thank you for your welcomed comments Re- my gas tank. The out side of the tank has been bogged and painted over, I may have to look for a second hand one I guess.I wish Porsche would not use that PVC coating as is traps water under it if damaged . Plastic tanks all round!!!!
