Alternator voltage and Amperage?

What's my S.E.V. Motorola alternator supposed to be putting out for voltage and amperage? It has 14V on it but?

Serial # is 71223702

Also what external regulator is supposed to be used with this alternator?

Thanks John. I want to take the alternator into the repair shop and I just want to know if I should be getting a full 14V from it or less than that?

Thanks for the reply.

The "Set point" for most regulators is around 13.8V at the BATTERY, but remember that this alternator is four decades old, if you get high 13's I'd call it cool. Make sure your grounds and cables are clean, with that output you can't afford to lose any voltage to corrosion.

Well I had it checked out and it's reading 40AMPS and 14.2VOLTS. The guy says it's within specs so I guess I'll run it.

Does this sound OK ? .....and what size wire should I be running from the B+ to the Battery?
