staying in the fold...with a lot of work to do

Thanks for the support from the folks that PMd and responded to my recent thread about possibly having to sell my 72 E, as a practical matter due to potential military assignments.

I cannot do another tour in Southwest Asia or god knows where. 15 months here has been enough. I have submitted initial paperwork to resign my commission as an officer, and will be getting out at some point in 2009. So, the 911 will remain in my life - WOO HOO!

Now the hangover sets in: The car is disassembled. Will need to address the following to get her back on the road:

engine and tranny reseal - the latter will be extra fun on the 72
determining and finding an induction system, since I sold my Webers, thinking a buddy was going to sell me his 3.6 - Webers again? PMOs? PMO ITBs with EFI...?
body work (rust repair and repaint, adding lightweight parts throughout, and a cage)
above all, got to find a cheap place to live and work on the car in the Austin - Killeen TX corridor

Stay tuned for more drama. I will be back from Iraq in January, and the fun begins then...

Cheers, Al

Come home safe. Glad to hear you can keep the car.

Not an expert here by any means, but I saw a 60 Minutes segment on people who left the military and were reupped against their wishes because they didn't resign their commission, so make sure you get those papers in!

Keep the car for mental hygiene, that's what most of us do.

Safe return & God bless you!

Same here. Driving the 911 = "going to my happy place" (almost as good as Happy Gilmore's)...
