Anyone have a Coverking Stormguard cover?
I just received mine from Pelican and I was surprised that it's only a single layer of what appears to be a Nylon with a rubberized backing (the part that touches the paint). With tax and shipping, this puppy is almost $400 when you get the exhaust Nomex protection. That's another story I will address at another time.
You that have these covers, are they as good as advertised? BTW, I did searches on and off for 3 days before I bought the thing. Not too much info on these. This thread may serve to provide the insight to choose the best cover for your application. |

I have a Coverking StormProof cover for my 993 and previously had one for my 3.2L. I have been very satisfied with this cover. It's very breathable but also does a good job of keeping moisture off the car. I paid $239 (cover, bag, cable lock) from Pelican. If I ordered again I don't know if I would bother to order the bag as I tend to fold/roll it up and stick it in my storage room after I take it off.
Regards, David

Worked very well over the winter for me. The only problem I have is in windstorms the over sometimes partly comes off.
Still not to sure how the lock system feeds through, never used it before. |

Re. the cover partially blowing off - this has happened to me a few times in high winds. In addition to using the cable lock (which goes under the car from one side to the other) I recently tied the cover down "long-ways" by running a nylon rope under the car from back to front, then front to back over the car before cinching it up together around about the license plate area.

I have one and like it... the elastic seems to keep it on pretty good. I like that it folds up to a small volume. I need to install the heat proof fabric they sent me where the exhaust pipe lands. So I usually put that corner up on the bumper and it all stays on there fine, I don't think it has been tested on a very windy day however...

I got one last year, for my targa that leaks at the corners. I'd say it's 80-90% effective at keeping water out. Not perfect, but a big improvement over my previous cover.
The water seems to get through a bit on the flat part of the roof, while the water seems to roll off the parts with slope. So I'm going to try putting a rubber ball, about the size of a softball, on top of the roof under the cover to see if it helps shed the water. In any event, I'm pretty pleased with it. Probably about as watertight as anything with a reasonable amount of breathability.

You will get wear marks under the cover on the car where the rope is. Cover will move slightly when the wind blows and the rope will scuff the paint through the cover. Friend did that and is was very difficult to get out, even w/ rubbing compound. FWIW. You might try running the ropes under the car both from side to side and front to back. sorry, Stormproof it is, not stormguard. Well, I didn't much like the rubberized feeling of the interior surface. I guess it's a good cover according to your comments. thanks much.

Just put some water on it, watch it bead like crazy. Then you will appreciate it.
Worse comes to worse if you are still not happy you could get a cloth inner cover, and then the storm proof as their outer cover. I've used it last year during the winter and didn't notice any scuffing, of course I have a white car so it would be hard to tell. |
