				Diagnosing an Electrical Drain

I have a 1980 911Sc, and have been experiencing an electrical drain, which is killing the battery overnight. I checked the amperage today, and found that with with nothing on, I am getting a drain of about 1.08 amps.

I wound up tracing the drain back to what appears to be the alternator. I had recently rebuild the motor, and wondering if it is possible that when I hooked up the alternator, I could have messed up the wiring so that there is a drain, or could a bad diode possibly be draining power? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Scott

				Alternator diagnostic test........

If you think the alternator is causing you the power drain, I would suggest to have it checked by an experienced alternator rebuilder. They could tell you right away if there is something wrong with your unit unless you know how to bench test it. The shop will only take about 10 to 15 minutes to perform a diagnostic test on your questionable alternator. The hardest part is removing and installing it back again. Just my two-cents. Tony |
