Will Manual Aero Mirrors Work on My SC?

My SC has electric flag mirrors. I read this about the manual Aero mirrors, part # 964.731.901.02: "Manual mirror kit will not work with cars that are equipped with electric mirrors."

Fact or fiction?

I don't know about a SC but in my 964 with electric flags I replaced them with manual Aero and the fit is perfect (I'm pretty sure doors are exactly the same) and all I did was just let the wires fall into the door.. big deal.

Go for it..

Thx for the reply. I'm just concerned about that statement, "does not work..." Anyone put manual Aero mirrors on an SC or 3.2 Carrera and have them "not work?"

Anyone? I'm ready to pull the trigger. Just want to make sure they'll work. Thanks.

I have them on my SC. Direct fit. Mine are manual. I just cut and taped my old wires form the electric flags.

What Moses said, if you want power ones I have the wiring kit that converts flag to Aero for $50 for the pair. Thanks

Definitely fit, here's my car - it may not look it but it is an 83...

PS if you get the kit from our host, with all due respect, check that you have ALL the parts before you start. And search this site for a method to compress the spring using a bolt and an eye hole screw (don't ask but it works !)

You bet... you have to paint it before I would think... After would be kinda harder... And if you find a way to properly mount the glass to the locking ring without grinding anything, do let me know, I'm still scratching my head over what I missed there... I had to dremel the crap out of the backing so that the glass would seat in deep enough to turn the locking ring... Oh, it's fun. I hated every minute of that project ! I love the results though ( I may be the only one, but I do)....

Search for a thread on aero mirrors if you don't know what I mean, I posted pictures and my solution (the dremel)

The Aero mirror puzzle: Help ???

Is there any kind of aftermarket version close to the factory Aero that works? I'm looking for a pre-painted one in flat black (that matches my targa bar) with glass installed.

Thanks,

Scott

Not that I know of... No repros if that is what you mean. You can install any aftermarket mirror you'd like but you likely will waste time and money in trial and error checking for fitment, attachment methods etc... Maybe something reusing your base will simplify things...

Some vendors, I hear, assemble them for you - I'd pay good money for that and paint after doing it myself.... You'll have to search the aero mirror threads, I don't remember who.... Really, it's best to use the factory aero, it bolts on just like a flag mirror, no new holes, same bolting system so you'llunderstand how to reinstall it after you pull your old ones, it covers the existing hole (big hole, it's not like the old porsches with 2 holes), and almost covers the inevitable gasket base perimeter mark in your door paint, but not quite.... still, it's close enough that you probably won't need to repaint the door unless you are the obsessive/compulisve/concours type...
