How can you tell the difference between E Cams
I just had my 2.2L motor rebuilt. It started out as a 2.2T, but I have installed S pistons and E camshafts. I thought all E camshafts were the same...I now learn that there are two different types of E cams.
My question is...how can you tell the difference between the two types of E cams Here are the left and right numbers on my cams. 901 105 181 00 901 105 110 05 I would have thought that the above numbers should indicate early E cams. How can you tell?? Thanks K Today, 10:06 PM |

Subscribing. I have thought this too,as my spec book suggests that the 69 e cam had more total opening duration on the intake as compared to the 70 e model. I guess you could have the cam profiled but maybe there is another way. Paul.

In Wayne's Rebuild 911 Engines on p207 is a camshaft chart.
it shows 69-71 E and 72-73 E cams with part numbers. it shows same pn but different timing. also your pn's are the pn's I ordered from Stoddard years ago. I went through this same issue with them and Allan Caldwell before my purchase.

I looked closely at Wayne's book. The intake timing for 69e is 29 btdc to 39 abdc. For the 72e the intake timing is 18 btdc to 36 abdc. It would seem to me that the early cam intake duration is 29 + 90 + 39 = 158. For the 72 the intake duration is 18 + 90 + 36 = 144. I don't see how they can be the same cam, even though they have the same part number.

I went through same insanity.
It was speculated by one guy that the 1969 #'s are correct. When I ordered the cams Stoddard sales confirmed that the 1970-71 is the one that gets ordered from Germany and it's the same cam.

Actually, using my small technical specifications book, the 69 cam is different from the 70 and later ones. Again based on the specs, it appears that the 69 e cam is closer to a solex profile
