Respray cost averages ?

Hi to all- I have read several random threads on this but couldn't really find a good answer. I am currently considering another 911- looking at SC and Carrera models from 78-89.

All of the cars I am considering have what I would call "good bones"- bodies in good shape with no rust, but inevitably most are old enough now to be in need of at least some paintwork. I think it would look better to just have the whole car painted than end up with the inevitable color matching and fading issues.

Assuming I find a nice one that only needs sanding and repainting, what is the approximate amount to budget for a 1) good paint job- (no color change)- not necessarily a Fred Hernandez concours paint job? I am obviously not looking at places like Maaco or Earl Scheib. (not meant to offend anyone associated with those companies of course)

I don't plan on stripping down to bare metal and am avoiding cars that need obvious major bodywork.

I live in Georgia so they are more lax here than California with environmental issues, dont know if that factors in or not.

I am guessing $5000, does that sound right? thanks!
