What would you buy in the 25-30K range

I'm looking for a reliable daily driver for the nicer spring thru fall days - no winters. I prefer a coupe but am interested in other opinions on targa & cabs. What generation of 911 would you suggest? In the 25 - 30K range there seems to be a lot to choose from, 964, 993 & 996's. I've had both aircooled & water pumpers, so I really don't have a preference. I'm more interested in reliability (no more time to tinker) & comfort (air, stereo, etc). I'd like to think I will take it to the track for some DE's, but like my time to tinker on old cars, that probably won't happen very often.

Any input would be appreciated. Looking to "shop" for the next few months & buy sometime closer to spring.

Yeah, I keep hearing about that model. But I haven't been able to find any with that factory option. I usually get the ones that drain anything you have left in the bank.

Shoot for $30K you can buy mine - I'll throw in the bolt in roll bar and race pads so you can do track days.

993TT - maybe someone will be cash strapped enough this winter & need to sell. Then maybe, just maybe. (dreaming is still free right?)

- I'm not looking to buy just yet. I figure I'd look around, do my research & try to buy in the late winter or early spring next year. That's of course some great deal comes along in the meantime.

Since you're looking for reliability, creature comforts, and low maintenance, look no further than the 996. For a daily driver it is by far the best option in your price range. Get a coupe for better protection on rainy days.

In that price range, I would also think that you could find a well maintained, low mileage G50 Carrera that would make you grin, and not empty your wallet. I'm not sure(?) a 993 or 996 in comparable condition would fit in this price range. Other's will know for sure. Maybe I just love my 88. Dollar for Dollar, hard to beat.

Regards
Karl

If you like the 996 Japanese look...go ahead.

In Sweden, that kind of money would get you a 964. Nothing newer. Not that the 964 is a bad car, its superb, but still. Cheap cars and cheap gas - you lucky sobs!

That's a tough decision you got there. Wish I were in the same boat!

Either an 88 Carrera or a 95 993. You'd have some money left over on the 88, and may have to add a bit more $$$ for the 993.

You really have to decide on how much 'soul' you want to your car and what you can put up with on a daily basis.

Maintenace costs are probably a wash. You can do a ton of work yourself on both of the cars. The 993 is not much harder to work on (in some cases even easier!).

I've had both an 84 and a 993, and it would be a tough decision. Since you live in the worst climate (both hot and cold extremes), the scale tips every so slightly in favor of the 993.

That's my 2 cents.

I'd go for a late model G50 Carrera or a clean C2. Actually a 93 RS America would be my first choice if I could find one for $30k.

My $0.02

For me to shell out 25-30K on a G50 the car would have to be in near concourse condition.
That price range clearly has 993 written all over it (and a much better car than the G50 and newer 996....IMHO). Since you mention AC, guess the G50 is out of the argument altogether....?

LOL!
I've owned a G50 in the past - current 993.

You may want to advise this guy how much work went into getting those vent temps since
the stock system is virtually useless... (btw, I would question the temps accuracy anyway).

On a side note, there is an 86 for sale on here with a G50 and varioram stuffed in it.
Now that is something I would pay 25K for (as long as the AC was redone of course)!

The best you can find for that $... can't go wrong with either one. Just make sure you get a PPI done.
