Targa top headliner

Anybody out there ever replace their Targa top headliner. Lots of articles on the vinyl peice but haven't found anything on the interior fabric piece. I'm cheap and don't want to pay someone else $500+ to do this.

I did mine about 2 years ago. I got the headliner from our host.
It was not an easy task. The headliner does not come with any meaningful instructions and you really have to have a good feel for what you are doing. Is it an impossible DIY job? No. But you have to remove the side seals and basically rebuild to entire structure. You also have to adjust the side seals so there is no air/water gaps when your done. It took about 10 hours total on my first try and about 1 or 2 hours over the next week or so to eliminate the air/water leaks. Overall, I'm happy with the job, but I would not hesitate in paying someone about $150 (plus materials) to do the job. I would strongly recommend having the entire top redone at the same time. It may be worth it to have an expert put a new top skin and headliner on while adjusting the seals. The screws holding in the side seals are very difficult to reposition. Good Luck.

DW--I had my 86Targa headliner replaced for a little over a $100! Outstanding job--and still looks great after almost 8 yrs. Price may be doubled by now but that's still way under five bills. Not too far from you either --give a call to Armands Auto Upholstery,Inc.
2660 N. Main St, Walnut Creek, CA. Their tel# is 934-4373. Also had my Targa top replaced by them after a bit of vandalism. They did an excellent job on that too.

What exactly do you need to do? Typically the foam from the back of the original headliners fails and falls through the headliner fabric, on you, your seats, etc.

Replacing this is a breeze. Order the double-thick liner though from Original Fit or Dan at Cars Inc.
