Road Trip!!!
Well, I'm on my way this morning to Ann Arbor, MI to pick up my new 911. It's an '88 Carrera. I'll be driving it back to Pittsburg, about 825 miles away. What a weekend! I'll get there tonight at about 11:00, pickup by noon on Saturday, and start heading back. I hope to back sometime Sunday. I'm a little worried about the trip because I don't want to get stuck in the middle of Illinois with nobody around to help me out. My non-mechanical brother is coming with, but hopefully, all will go smoothly. If you see a Guards Red 911 along I-70 this weekend, give me a wave! And pray for me.

I think you will find your adventure fun, but without much drama. My experience with older cars is if they start and run, once you get on the highway they tend to not have many breakdowns. Have fun!

Hi Alan,
I'll echo Kurt's comment, though hopefully we're not tempting fate!! Last summer my wife and I flew to Columbus, OH and drove our 85 back to Ottawa, Ontario....it was a long drive, and the car didn't miss a beat. I'm assuming you had a PPI done - that should have flagged any issues that would cause problems on your way home i would think. Best of luck, and enjoy the ride! |

Just do it! A friend and I flew from NC to San Fran. last February, he bought a '71 Volvo P1800 for $2,000, and we drove it back to NC with no problems at all. One hell of an adventure, and something I'll never forget. Life is short.

Have fun, Alan.
I drove my SC back from RI to Alberta last year. Almost 3000 miles, no problems... Good luck!!

+1 on the extra belt. Inspect that one on it too before you head out! If that goes, your engine is no longer being cooled! I just did a trip from MI to Va a month ago with my new SC. 162k miles and had not had an oil change in a couple years. (found out about this after purchase). I made it no probs except an out of balance front wheel that drove me nuts! Good luck!!

Before you pick it up tomorrow, make sure you get an extra DME. Don't know what the cost in the States (about €75 in Germany) - small investment that, when needed, can really save your butt on the road.
Enjoy your adventure! Envy, envy, envy... ![]()

Hey Souk you beat me to it, Pittsburg is only a short drive across Ohio from Michigan so no way you are doing 825 miles, 735 will put you in NYC. Get a better road map from your local AAA.

Who ever heard of Pittsburg, Kansas? Plus you have to look at his avatar to figure that one out.
