My New Carrera!!!

Hey guys,

So, you may have read my Road Trip thread. Here's the full(ish) story. A couple of weeks ago, I was roaming around the various websites looking for an '87 - '89 Carrera. They've always been out of my price range, but I still look. So, I saw an '88 that was pretty cheap. About 120,000 miles, Guards Red (my favorite). It was cheap enough that surely something must be wrong. Throughout several e-mails, a PPI, and a generous favor from Art Zasadny, I decided the issues weren't enough to make me pass it up. Hence, the road trip.

It's got an oil leak, it's a little dirty, the a/c doesn't work, the cruise doesn't work, and various other cosmetic issues, but it's mine. And I just made a 850 mile trip with no issues to bring it home, so it's pretty sound.

I know this may not be proper to share, but the best part . . . . . $10,600.

Now, I just have to make sure that his big brother doesn't go buy him a beer.

The ad was on cars.com, and it was in a little town called Saline, MI. It's about 10 minutes outside of Ann Arbor. Again, a huge thanks goes to Art who helped me to not waste a trip. By the way, as you can see in my signature, the SC's for sale. It's awesome to have two Porsches, but not when you have three cars, only two garage holes. And don't make me dream about a coupe. Like they say, it's an addiction, and the first step is admitting you have a problem.

It's really weird. I knew something was up from previous pictures, but I checked the tire sizes, and they are correct. Just the wheels are backwards. I just haven't had time to fix it.

Nice looking car and unless it's got major issues, that price seems like a steal! Congrats! The long drive home with an unknown car is really exciting - even though your PPI would have most likely uncovered any trip-ending issues, that little voice at the back of your mind keeps you on your toes - part of the rush if you ask me!!

As for only having two spots in your garage...nonsense!! If you're a little creative, that right hand side looks like it could easily fit 2 cars....what's that big open space in front of your SC?? Pull the SC up, and park another car length-wise across the back...presto - now start looking for that coupe!!!

Cheers,
Dave

The open space is the old one-car garage that has been converted into my workshop. There is now a 6-inch drop-off between the garage floor and my workshop floor.

Nice find! a couple of planks would let you squeeze a car down there you would just have to move it to work in there.

Take the headlights off, fill them half full of windex and shake the crap out of them. Rinse repeat. Clear glass will look 100% better.

Looks fantastic! Have never even sat in a rag top. Wonder what its like? Not that I would have any use for it more than 5-10 days a year in Sweden..

I drove it to work yesterday. It was 42 degrees, with a 15 mph wind. Heater on full blast. It was sunny, though. I can't wait until the weekend. It's supposed to be back in the 70's. BTW, I need to replace a whining footwell blower.
