Oil Tank R&R hose clamps

Does anyone know how to remove the hose clamps on the oil tank hoses...the hose to the right of the filler tube in the photo attached? Are the clamps reusable? Can I just replace them with more common variety?

You can reuse them but I doubt that many would recommend it. You can insert a pick into the crimped area and wiggle it back and forth to spread out the crimp. Later you can re-crimp them with dykes. New clamps are available from many suppliers like McMaster-Carr I think they're called Oettinger clamps. There are special pliers that were $35.00 when I bought mine 9 years ago, they're probably about $750.00 now. You could probably use regular hose clamps and be fine, there isn't a lot of pressure there, but I would never use any American made clamps, find some Norma clamps or something similar.

Actually I got the pliers about a year ago new for $20. Just search the net lots of places carry them. What is hard to find is the clamps themselves. Most places sell in bulk and I don't need 500 clamps.

Thanks, Howard. Do the pliers have a special name?

Yeah, I still have about 490 "Oetiker" clamps, 3/4" ID, double crimp. Let me know if you need any, I'll drop a couple in the mail. #200ET

My understanding is that the Oetiker clamps are used by mfr's due to their relatively low price and quick installation. The issue is that it requires so many different sizes to fit various applications, unlike a regular screw hose clamp that offers a fairly wide range of adjustment.

Oetiker pliers.

be careful with that rubber part with the three clamps on it. It is no longer available and mine split due to age. I had to make my own from multiple sizes of heater tubing.

Thanks again, Howard. I got the oil tank replaced and no leaks, so far. I had to re-use the clamps (it's my daily driver with 223,000 miles on it) and the rubber part you mentioned was showing it's age, but I got it back on without damaging it or the clamps.

BTW I saw Gene out cruising the bay in his trimaran a few days ago. I'm boat shopping again too. I need an escape pod.
