I know this will not help, but if you do not like the burgandy and are not concerned witha correct year color, you might consider Abergine.

I know this sucks.

Dont get me wrong, I dont hate the burgundy. I also like the Aubergine but with all the work Im doing to this I just want it to be exactly what I want. Im taking the car all the way down and replacing, replating, repainting everything and I just dont want to go in the garage and look at it and wish I had chosen another color.

You can always go the route Chris did and go completely custom, by creating your own color that although not on the color sheet, epitomizes the flavor of the era:

Kenik, you are just mean. OK, so am I.

Carrerax, it is your car and all of us out here have our favorites, but it has to make you happy. If you are not sure take some time, it is cheeper that having to repaint (unless you are Chris and just love doing it over). Look thru all the photos on Early S Registry to see examples of many of the early colors, it may help.

In the end it will be yours for a long time so do your homework.

Yea, I have followed the build of that car. It is awesome. I am going to stick with a stock color though. Im not building a hot rod or a track car. Im buying another 993 for that as soon as this car is done.

shoot a panel in each color

carry the around with you to different lights & times of day and prop them up at different angles

sit there and watch for however long it takes you to finish your favorite beverage

take notes

ask passers by

the answer will come to you

Noticed this thread late; here is a Stone Grey Metallic from '89 and Slate Grey Metallic from '97.

Good luck with your restoration.

Regards,
David

I like slate grey (gray?) as well, but there are a few other colors. Sorry, I'm on a business trip so I don't have access to my literature, but you could consider Cloudy Grey (light grey), Beige Grey, and there's one other color that's also a light grey, but the name escapes me.

I have a color book from that period, and it shows all the optional colors, and the light greys are VERY nice, and look awesome in my opinion.

I'm doing a color change to a grey as well, not sure of which grey, but I'm also going to do an interior color change as well!

I already have a silver 73S with a green leather interior, here's the seats, the houndstooth insert is also green/black/white.

cheers,
Eric

That seat is awesome! Is it a real one or one of the aftermarkets? I have considered the lighter grays but havent actually looked at a real car in them yet.

I've always wanted to a heron gray coupe w/ wine interior and green gauges.

My best photoshop mix (note, may look completely different screen to screen):

I agree Shaun. That would look great. My interior is black though. I wish there was a place that I could see slate gray and the others together.

It's a real sport seat, and we did our best to match the leather to the ones available in the 356 and 911 era. The houndstooth is a perfect new production of the original one offered in the mid 60's.

I haven't seen a real car in the lighter grey's myself, but I'm going to do it anyway.

I'm also considering doing a red interior.....

BTW, There was a slate grey with red interior 67S at the Monterey historics in 1998 that was absolutely stunning. I took a pic of it at the time, and I have seen a pic or two of it online somewhere, but I doubt that I could put my finger on my film if I tried...buried somewhere. The interior had red cord inserts in the sport seats.

regards,
Eric

I don't think I have seen a prettier (IMO) early car than Steve McQueen's 911S:

It just sets off the chrome trim perfectly.

Don't do slate gray. I want to do slate gray. That's too much slate gray in Ohio.

Sht...now I have to think of a new color.
