911 door handle triggers

Car is a 74; the tiny trigger in the door handle is broken and I'm betting it's pot metal and can't be welded. A while back there was discussion here by someone who was thinking of making up some aftermarket triggers of aluminum. Anyone know if this happened? Thanks

Do you have a Pic?

Oh I see, that would suck.

I may have an extra trigger lying around. If I can find it you can have it.

Thanks. Bought one of Mitch's.

How hard was this to fix? I'd like to fix mine, but don't know where to start.
Do you have a link for the trigger at Mitch's?
Thanks

I guess "Mitch" is member madmmac posting above. Both the site posted and Mitch are from Washington state. If so it's only 4:30 am there.

If window regulator and glass have to be removed now would be a good time to install power door locks.

dyten 12-01-2008 04:57 AM

Sorry, I feel silly now. I googled Mich to no avail.

Here's Mitch's site. http://www.porschedoorhandles.com/thanks.html

Do a search. There's lots of material on this pretty easy job. Here's are a couple...

Thanks for posting those results from your searches. I did a little poking around, but I missed those great threads you brought up.

Well, the Porsche God gave me a treat today. Tried to open my passanger side and "SNAP" the trigger broke.

So MoneyManager, how is the new upgraded trigger working out?

moneymanager 01-25-2009 04:27 PM

It's just fine. Excellent product, higher quality imho than the original. But if you are an authenticity freak, they may not have quite the soft rounded precise shape you crave.

A side note. I had to buy a new handle ages ago. I don't recall why. Maybe it was the trigger, and it was not available then. This was probably late 80's/early 90s. I ended up buying a whole handle and trigger. I swapped in my key barrel. The only thing is that the moldings on the inside of the handle I got caused the key barrel to line up horizontal instead of vertical. They simply were not the same on the inside and there was no physical way to get that key vertical.

I've always meant to try to find another correct handle. But, I'm sure decent handles are now way too expensive.

Maybe I should pull out that old handle that I certainly still have and see if it was just the trigger and use it again.

Thanks for this heads up.

Meanwhile, if anyone has any thoughts on what year car had a different handle like that, certainly let me know. It is a 1973 car, and the handle matches exactly from the outside a 1973 handle.

On my '80 SC it was straight forward: Remove the pockets, inner handle, latch and panel.
The window was up out of the way.
Outer handle is removed from the inside; it takes some dexterity but is doable.

Good time to grease some of the parts of the mechanisms of latch and window. :)

Just did the repair, Pelican Part came with the Trigger, Spring and Mount Assembly all pre-assembled, Good Job Wayne! Perfect Fit.

The PEL design is different so you can't just use the trigger. I swapped the driver side with the passanger side. Lucky too. I discovered the Driver side Mount Assembly was poorly repaired via glue and rivets by PO, the glue broke and held by the rivet .

I salvaged the trigger and used the old mount off of the broken one and placed it on the passanger side. While I had both handles off I baked and painted them with enamel black. Looks great.

I used the new replacement part on the driver side. Works Perfectly.
