Lightbulb Subwoofer installation in 1987 Carrera

I've heard about installing subwoofers in the 3.2 Carreras under the passenger seat. Can anyone give me a recommendation for placement and the type of equipment to install? Any tricks / things to avoid? Pictures would be a real help.

I have power seats (the simple two up/down motors), a fairly new Alpine head unit (with good power out and amp / subwoofer RCA cable connections), and stock size replacement Polk speakers front and rear (just the lower speaker in the door--not the optional additional tweeter). I like the sound quality of my set up but am missing the bass--especially when the top's down on the car.

Thanks,
David

There are a couple of old threads on this. There is also a thread or two on where to put it, in the trunk or in the car. Happy hunting! I really like that color, nice car!

google and a search button is your friend. Best one on the market IMHO.

I run one of these in my 911, NICE, solid bass without being too thumpy.......

Hi David,

Not enough room under the seats. I think the only options are behind front seats in passenger footwell, in trunk, or do the rear seat delete and put a box where the seats used to be.

A Kenwood KSC-SW1 fits underneath the passenger seat, barely.

Do you want real bass, or fake bass?..........you need to move air fo rreal bass........the kenwood and JVC under the seat options (what are they 6.5" max for the driver) just don't cut it for a "real" stereo.......twin 8" or 10", with 200 real watts behind them, now we're talking. NAH, you don't need a huge box in place of the rear seats, plus even a healthy 911 alternator doesn't put out that much amperage to power a "BIG" stereo amp.

But I'm an audiofile geek, most people love the sound of air cooled 6 cylinder stereos singing at 5000-6000 rpms...on long road trips, I loved my 10 dish CD changer, sony deck 4 x 50 watts for front and rear mids/tweets, and a 240 watt Carver Amp feeding my twin 8" subs crossed over warm at 125 hz for some lower mid freq reproduction. I think I measured it at 105-110 db in the drivers seat. Nice well rounded sound, not overpowering in any manner.

but still, I could bounce my volt meter at volume.......don't go crazy on the amps and their current draw.

Blaupunt makes a great single 8" unit that sounds great. Fits under the seats fine.

I'm no audophile but I do like more bass and midrange in my music than most. The Kenwood does a passable job of it at reasonable volume levels, especially considering the small space, relative ease of installation and low cost.

Hard to get good bass in our car because no space at all. I currently have 2 10" in the rear seats, yes I lost my rear seats and still don't have "good" bass. I do have a lot of bass but what I have is almost flat bass, which is not my first choice. If you want to know about bass and sub-box, research on the sub-woofer you want, then search for manufacture specification on box side for it. You might be able to go a little smaller but I don't think a flat tiny box under the seat will sound that good, unless what still want to spend the $$ and get some (any type) of bass.
Good luck.
