What is a carb float check tool and how does it work, or how do i use it.

If it is what I am thinking about, it is usually included in most carb rebuild kits. It is a measuring device, to check that you have the float at the proper level, if not you have to adjust(bend) the float arm so it is in the correct position, to actuate the needle valve that lets fuel enter the fuel bowl on the carb. Float too high, results in flooding because the float is not able to shut the needle valve, too low, it is not letting enough fuel in the fuel bowl to run engine properly. The one I am familiar with is sold by youroil.net.weber-carbs. It is a vial shaped clear plastic unit with graduation and a screw which mounts into the drain hole of the float bowl. It shows the level of fuel in the bowl while the engine is running.

It's a nuisance though as you have to keep mounting and dismounting it and spilling fuel in the process. I finally started using it on one float bowl only and the measuring the height of the float by dropping a plastic straw from a spray lubricant can down the vent pipe and marking it when the float level was where I wanted. Crude perhaps, but it sure saves a lot of time and spilled fuel. At least I am able to "ball park" doing it that way.

The floats are adjusted by raising or lowering the needle valves through shim washers.
