Boxster Seats in an 911

I recently got an almost new pair of leather seats from a 2000 Boxster for a very good price. The seats are manual sliders and height adjustment with electric recline. They weight just a few pounds more than the originals. My old seats are 30 years old so this is an upgrade worth doing.

Prior to buying them I did search this board and it seems that putting these seats in a 911 has been done before. The posts talked about taking care of the angled piece at the from of the seats and then drilling new mounting holes. The posts said that the Boxster seats seem to be at the same height as the stock ones.

So, I took care the angled piece at the front of the seat and ran wiring for the power recline. When I set the Boxster seat on the original mounts it sits 1.5 inches higher.

I am willing to cut off the original mounts and fab up some new ones, if I can be sure the Boxster seat rails will fit between the sides below the original mounts, so I can mount them lower. I did some measuring and it seems like they will fit between the sides, but it will be very close.

Does anyone have any input?

I am not good with links.

Do a search under my name, Mookster, and one of my threads covers this topic/how-to in detail. You will sit higher.

If you don't care about the issue of keeping your car original, great upgrade.

Based on my how-to instructions, you can easily change back to the old seats later.

Good luck.

Lowering Seats............

I put some aftermarket seats in my SC a few years ago. In order to get them low enough, I built some brackets that suspend below the stock brackets using 4 6mm screws on each side with a spacer between the original bracket and a piece of 1/8" think steel plate. The aftermarket seat sliders fit between the original brackets (no cutting required!) and you can adjust the seat height by adding to or subtracting from the spacers. On the drivers side, the added brackets run side to side, but had to mount front to rear on the passenger side. Here you can see the added mounting plate, the spacer and bolt. As long as the seat sliders will drop between the original mounting brackets this method should work with your Boxster seats. Good luck with your project.*

For an update for anyone thinking about this. The Boxster seats I got have a pneumatic height adjustment. I notice that even in the lowest position, the sliders were still about 3/4 of an inch from the bottom of the seat.

So I disconnected the pneumatic cartridge and the swing arm mechanism that the sliders are mounted on will tuck up to the bottom of the seats now. I will just place a solid rod in place of the pneumation cartridge to hold things in place. This made a significant difference in getting the seats to sit lower.
