Ever hear of this breaking???

My shifter has become extremely sloppy recently so I replaced the bushing in the coupler under the floor in the back seat with little change. Next I opened up the front ****er area and noticed a broken metal piece. I have a Porsche brand short shift kit and this is part of that kit which was installed last year. The bushing up front were replaced then too.

The broken part is this rectangular metal thing with a hole in each side. The shifter rod goes through this. I went to Zims and bought a new one and they said they nave never seen one of these break before.

Anyone ever seen this break? Do you think maybe it was installed wrong?
