k&n vapor kit dumb newbie question
 

please don't laugh at the newbie, but I want to get the k&n watershields for my 1969t and I have a vague idea about what the vapor kit is. Could someone tell me what it does and how it gets installed?

When you remove your stock air cleaner assembly you will be left with some unattached vapor emissions hoses. The vapor kit will tie them together and then to the water shields thus giving your engine compartment a more tidy appearance and routing the emissions to the carbs. The kit comes with printed instructions. The kit is worth getting. Very easy to install.

What are the gauges leading from the carbs that I see in so many pics?

fuel pressure

The only gauge that I can think of in the engine compartment is a fuel pressure gauge. Richard Parr at PMO has these too.

While the PMO hose kit will satisfy the needs of the oil tank vapor recovery system, I'd recommend installing (later, if not now) a oil breather/catch can in the path between tank and carbs. This helps separate liquid oil from fuel vapors. Under some driving and engine conditions (high g loads, full/over filled oil tank), liquid oil will be forced through this path into the air filter housings. A full smoke screen following your car is one telltale sign.

Unfortunately, most catch can setups for a 911 are DIY with the appropriately sized hose fittings and mount.
