Pertronix 'upgrade' ?
Just swapped into my 70T the correct Bosch dizzy with Pertronix. Prior to this I was running a Bosch 'S' dizzy with points. Car was running well prior to 'upgrade'. Now its running a bit rough, doesn't idle as well and seems to lack power. Also adjusted the valves. Considering just going back where I started but was in hopes the Pertonix would improve performance. Any thoughts? Haven't touched the Webers yet other than adjusting idle revs down. THX

I'd suspect the valve adjust or the timing adjustment. My Pertronix added reliability and eliminated points changes but did nothing I could sense for performance.

Seems like the common factors are the "correct" distributor and the Pertronix. One of these or some issue in the installation is the source of the rough engine, so don't start replacing other parts arbitrarily.
Perhaps the rotor or distributor cap on the replacement distributor or? Why didn't you install the Pertronix in the S distributor? I would think the advance curve in the S distributor is more conducive to engine power. Could also be a faulty Pertronix unit. Swap back to your previous configuration, then go from there. Keep it simple. Sherwood |
