Living in Taiwan, it costs the equivalent of USD 1100 per year for tax alone to run a 911 or any car with a displacement between 3.0L and 3.6L. Running an American V8, a Porsche 928, or a British RR/Bentley with a displacement above 5.4L would be $2500, makes me miss the days when I drove a '77 Buick Le Sabre in Illinois.

The tag prices of the latest 997 with PDK are :
Carrera 170K,
Carrera S 190K,
Carrera Cabriolet 184K,
Carrera S Cabriolet 205K.

The Ferrari F430 would set you back at 485K, brand new.
A '06 F360 Spider would be about 300K while a '96 F512M still asks for 160K at present, though both are in very good condition.

Lamboghini sells at the same price level as Ferrari but not as popular though an official distributor was just launched in Taipei.

What about housing, or more specifically, a garage space for working on your old 911? No way in Taipei unless you are a billionaire and yes, most people here who drive Porsche, Ferrari, or Lambo seem to be billionaires. Pre 996 Porsche 911 is a rare bird now and I've never met another Targa on the road.

That's a shame that there aren't more wealthy people over there that want to own a Targa.

I'm certain they're less expensive than the U.S. versions. Especially in the long-term.

They gotta be less expensive than the US "pretend to be Japanese " version I have been married to for the past 20 something years (The reason I am driving a 30 year old 911 and not a new one).

That sucks, I don't understand how crushingly excessive taxation is supposed to encourage people to work harder and better themselves and their careers?

Its not that I am some ultra right winger who thinks the rich shouldn't be taxed, or the middle class, but some governments work under the impression their sole purpose and existance is to find new and novel ways to hurt peoples wallets, then they blow all the money on garbage projects.

Now comes the good news: if you don't mind torturing yourself with the high tax, maintenance expenses, and hiring a chauffeur you can have a '94 Rolls-Royce SILVER SPUR lll at less than 50K. Just make sure you can find a buyer later.

Must say I pretty much appreciate that Porsche made such sports or super cars affordable and still practical as used ones for more people to enjoy them.
