What can I expect for oil loss when replacing the pressure sending unit and the oil level unit? Can I expect a giant oil slick in the driveway by the time I am through?
|
Are you sure you have a problem? A couple posts eluded that you may not, and I never saw where the issue was in turn further defined (Forgive me if i missed it.)
The oil pressure reading (Druck Press) changes with rpm and temperature. This is normal. As an aside, The few new cars that have an oil gauge, come with a heavily dampened gauge. In fact, it's more an idiot light with a needle than a gauge. Why did manufacturers start doing this? Because people kept thinking there was a problem with their car since the needle would rat times read low, and kept giving different readings. |
Well, I did check all the connections, replaced nearly all just to be sure, but both the pressure guage and oil level guage are pegged out even at an idle, they only leave this spot when I turn the ignition off. Both were reasonably priced, so what the heck, why not? Guess if they still don't work, then I get to trace a wiring problem....yipeeeeee/

I replaced the oil level sending unit, the guage is working fine now. I also went to replace the pressure sending unit, but since what I now have versus the one that is in it, do not appear to be the same. Sooooooooooooo, I am most likely looking at the wrong part on the engine. I thought it was the one way down low between the fan and A/C compressor? Just above this one is a much larger sending unit, of course I have no clue what that is for either. I began to remove the aforementioned unit, but immediately noticed larger diameter threaded area than the new one, so I tightened it back up? Is there some sort of 12 step weekend program for less than novice Porsche owners so I can learn about the car? :)

Is this what your engine has for a sender? (red arrow)

Let's first start with how impressed I am with your engine......NICE! The one I was referring to was the one directly below that one. The one I received from Pelican is NOT the one in your photo tho. Despite the box stating it is the pressure switch, I don't know for what unless it just looks different now.
|
Well, did a little more research, looks like I ordered the switch for the oil warning light....ooops. Good thing I don't work on these for a living I would starve to death :o and how do you post pics on here if you don't mind sharing.
|
I can't take credit for that engine. I stole the pic from the engine thread, it was the best I could find to show the sender.
In order to post a pic you have to go to the post reply page, it can't be done from the quick reply. There's a box on that page to attach a photo. It's pretty easy. BTW here's my engine... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1227884534.jpg |
Thanks Duke. Still a nice looking engine. What brand are you using for paint? I would love to do this with mine, I just can't part with driving it right now :) Only had mine a couple months, so still working out some bugs cuz it sat so long, but overall, it is very sound and strong.
