1987 911 to 964 Center Console Conversion

I really like the look of the center consoles in the 1989 and on 911's. Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade the interior of the 3.2 Carrera with the center console of a 964? If so, are there any after market companies that offer it? I'm sure a Porsche original is very expensive.

Thanks

hey Mike,

Do you have a picture or two of a 964 console? I don't think I have ever seen one. Thanks!

Cordially, Greg

please dont do it. Appreciate your car for what it is. I think that the updated console makes the car look bulky, heavy, and clumsy. Why would you want to add weight to your car?

Just a bump to this old post to see any project on this. I'm sure someone has done it or fail in the try.

My 78 SC has it done by the PO and this was one of the things which he did VERY good!

Custom made with sheet metal and an original 964 console on top including 964 gear lever and 964 hand brake.

I'll see if I can find pics from the project I did to it some time ago..I put it on a diet but initial weight was max. 5 kg in total anyway...

Here's an option for your center console from 9xauto.com.

I wondered about the heater controls as well and from the pic's it looks a little low for your elbow to rest on, but it does look nice. The claim of 10 min. instalation sounds like a crock and none of the pic's show them with the AC controls mounted in place.

I updated my interior with 993 door panels and seats and then added the Better Bodies center console.

Interior Upgrade 1983 SC

The panel comes blank from BB and you can just drill holes to mount the heater / ac controls. I also added an extra vent hooked up to where the bow tie used to be on the ac.

I've had this for over 4 years with no issues.

I also have this center console in my 86 cab. Like the looks but my right leg always touches. If your a person of larger stature, I don't think you would be able to drive the car. my last 911 updated to c2 had the real 964 console in it. A lot of fabrication for the shifter to work correctly.

A little different idea

I never liked the center console on the 1984-1988 Carrera. Looked to me like an abortion that was added as an afterthought. Here's what I did:

I can't seem to find them. I know the person who i sold the car to still has it. i'll see if I can get hold of him. Looks identical to the c2. If I remember correctly, we took the shell of a c2 center tunnel and overlayed it on the sc tunnel effectively raising it so we could use the stock c2 console. The shifter had to be modified to work but I can't quite remember what we did.

I have a center tunnel cut out of a 993 that I'm trimming up to fit over the stock tunnel, Hopefully I get my car back from the painters this weekend so I can tackle the interior (doing a full 993 conversion) So the center tunnel is one part I will have to figure out how to do and use the 993 e-brake and figure out heater controls. I'll take pics once I get to that point.
