DIY A/C Fuse?
 

Dear Listers,
My 88 coupe does not appear to have the a/c fan fuse. Could I simply insert an in line fuse holder with a 7.5 amp fuse in the non ground (white?) wire going to the fan? Or does the Porsche a/c fuse do something else in addition? I really struggle with electrical issues so please enlighten me if this is a dumb solution...I don't want to burn my car up.

I would put it in the positive side.

The factory part performs the same function as an in-line fuse. Yesterday I ordered the factory part (911 612 077 00) from Pelican at a cost of under $22. I got the part # from one of the previous threads on this topic.

I chose the Porsche part only because it will give it that factory look.

You could make your own up for under $5 or so but it will not look factory. I purchased the factory kit because I am tired of cobbled up stuff on cars I have purchased in the past and its just hard to beat the factory parts.

Besides, if the car now burns up because of a A/C fan catching fire or wiring problem in the front, I can turn to the insurance people and say "everything is stock and its been upgraded to the latest factory standards" so pay off!

For me having the thing look nice and protect the car was worth the $20 or so bux... will stay at home one night for dinner and save the costs.

Re your question, the factory harness has the positive side fused.
