1965 Sunroof
Greg, this Aichele quote is posted on the 1965/1966 transition thread. It looks like you have one of the few made and one of the first installed sunroofs.
In August 1964, the design work on the new Type 901 was for all practical purposes, concluded. Time was short, the new car had to get into production, and one item didn't get the green light until later in the production of the 1965 cars. The Sunroof. It was not available for the early 1965 cars. Here is the story from Tobias Aichele: " The sliding roof had long been on the sales department's wish list, especially since no open version of the 901 could be offered to customers. Harald Wagner, at the time the domestic sales chief, recalls that 901 project leader Wolfgang Eyb had struck the sliding roof from the development program. The efforts of the sales department did get a steel sliding roof back into the program, but not until June 1965." So the first part of 1965 was without. Your car was about april/may production getting ready for that June availability. From a very small sampling of the cars registered here on Pelican and the Early 911S Registry shows that 5 to 6% of the 1965-66 cars have sunroofs. So of the 800 cars produced between 301 200 and 302 000 an estimated (really a guestimate) 48 cars were made with that option. Show a picture. Is it electric with switch on the dash? Does it have the pop-up wind screen. Is it made by Golde? Cool. Bob

There was a great Excellence article about the 901 prototype that had a sunroof (and 356 dash) that slid forwards.

I would be interested in the numbers of cars built with sunroof from 1964 to 1973 year by year (particularly in 1968 A-series). Does anybody know if there is a list?
