hood emblem install

All, what is the best way to install a new hood emblem on my 84 3.2? What type of tool is best to remove the "clips" given that they are pretty deeply recessed under the hood? Has anyone photo documented this seemingly easy install?

Thanks

They aren't clips. They are just a rather cheaply made nut stamped out of sheet metal.
Just use a 10mm socket.

You need an 8mm socket, that's it. Place the new badge in the holes, hold with one hand and carefully raise the socket loaded with the speed nut and small gasket (more like sealant) upwards to the post. It's not hard to find the center if you go straight thru the hole. After getting the nuts started and just beginning to snug up, check the alignment and the fitment of the base gasket. Most have their trouble here with that gasket. They seem to run small. You can put it in really hot water just prior to installation to make it more forgiving. I use a plastic knife to pull the edges out from under the badge and get it centered. Tightening the nuts more will squish the base gasket out a little more. Don't over tighten, just enough to keep the badge from moving around. On fresh paint, they will make an impression, so I wait a month before installing.
