SC 3.0 Cam Questions
 

I am looking for some input from the people who "really know" about Cams. I have a 3.0 78 SC. I had a turbo on it and blew it up at Watkins Glenn a few years ago at a DE event. I had the motor rebuilt and went the Euro route instead of going back to the turbo. I bought brand new Mahle high compression euro spec pistons and new cylinders. I had the heads ported and polished, Lightweight flywheel, cnc pressure plate, got rid of the cat and am running a fab speed twin 3"out exhaust. The car now runs very strong and I am really happy about it. In reading about extracting the most HP from a 3.0, I have read that a cam swap can bring even more good power to the motor. I have read that the 964 profile cams are great, and I have also heard other say that they swear by the 20/21 cams. So please chime in, which are better for HP? What are the differences? What are your recommendations?

I have also heard that I can have my cams reground to 964 profile? is this true? Someone also told me that I can buy a set of cams from a 3.2 and have them ground to 964 profile. I can get them for a great price, so I was thinking of buying them and having them ground and having a spare set of cams here just in case I don't like them.

What do the in the know think about this?? cant wait to hear back..

With CIS and high compression, 964 profile is considered the hottest cam you can use, and yes you can have your SC cams reground to this profile. The 964 profile is called DC21 by John Dougherty, and if you can get a hold of him, he is the guy you want to talk to. http://www.drcamshafts.com/

He reground my SC cams to DC15, which was his recommendation for my motor with a CR of 8.5:1.
DC15= 20/21@Elgin = Sport SC. This is what you want with CR 8.5:1, while 964 aka DC21 is preferred with CR 9.3:1 or more.
