Any good tricks for removing speed and reference sensors from the mounting bracket?

I've got 1 sensor out and 1 stuck....REALLY STUCK. I will be replaceing them both so no need to salvage. I've tried PB Blaster and heat and no luck so far. Any good tricks before resort to I tearing up the offending bastige? BTW the one that's stuck is not the one protected by a tube.

I stick mine in a vice and banged with a hammer. I knew I was going to replace anyway.

Mangle the heck out of it. It doesn't matter since you're planning to replace.

Stop! One of the sensors is in a sleeve and if you bugger up the sleeve you have to also replace the mounting assembly

edit- oops sorry- started typing before I finished reading.

I just did this job and had the same problem. The one without the sleeve (Speed Sensor) just wouldnt come out. I took a hack saw to it to get past the soft cover, then I hit it from the back side with a punch and hammer to free it up.

I found I couldnt get the new sensor in either so I used the sanding bit on the dremmel to clean out the corrosion that was stuck to the walls of the mounts.

Regapping the mount was the biggest pain, as the job requires at least 3 arms where only 1 will fit. Obviouslly the idea to put a 0.8mm washer on the end of the old sensor didn't work since I had destroyed it. I used a feeler gage which i taped tight into some neednose plyers. Be sure not to drop it into the bell housing of the transmssion!

Definitely easier if you do it with a washer glued onto an old sensor. If you need one let me know I kept it and I'll loan it out as long as it is returned.

Answer is there is no easy way to remove the sensor......21 years of corrosion and it was totally fused. I twisted off the plastic top and cut off the bottom of the sensor with a cut off wheel. There is a magnet rod in the core of the sensor that is encased in plastic that runs the entire length of the sensor. I was then able to punch out the magnet core then had to chip out the plastic and dremel out the corrosion. No way around it - it must be "mangled-out"! So much for my hope that John Walker would swoop in with one of his easy fix tips ;)

Caution! DO NOT TWIST in the new Sensor. It will break the internal filament liken to a stuck light bulb. If you break the filament your car will not start. Ask me how I know.

+1 there is no easy way to take out that Speed Sensor. The housing needs to be removed then the old sensor mangled out. Carefully press in the new sensor then use the moded feeler to get the proper gap.

Of course easier with the engine out but no need.

:)
The sensor mount is expensive.
Anyone making a billet replacement?

I would think a dismantler would be the way to go to replace a buggered mount.
