Shift knob Question 85' Carrera
Following the OEM manual to remove my shift knob I destroyed it as the top portion was not removable as stated.
Are they screw on type, glued on ~ what??? Any help greatly appreciated! :D Thanks, rgd-out Ps. IMHO not enough smilies used on this forum. |
An 85 shift knob is one piece.
It is held on to the shifter by the use of a crush sleeve and press fit. |
Sounds like it is a operation to remove it, cut, file etc...
Any helpful suggestions. I am wanting to install a Momo before Mon/Tues track events. |
Typically, people get something underneath the shift knob, like a large open ended or adjustable wrench, and then hammer it up.
You could wrap it with a rag or something to try to protect it. But they can be pretty tight and a lot of people seem to end up destroying them. If yours is wrecked anyways, there are lots of ways to remove it, a large pair vice grips would have it cracked off in seconds, for instance. |
Thanks for the info.

Just pull on it like crazy, and try not to punch yourself in the face when it finally comes off the gear lever.
