911SC - AC delete question
 

I did try search, but it leaves of A/C and returns a bunch of unrelated stuff.

Anyway, I'm 99% done with my A/C delete, but I can't figure out how to get the lines up through the smugglers box. Is there a connection or hose bracket down below?

I did not remove the pan underneath. I cut my big line (it was useless), and I'm not able to get the big line off the condensor, so I thought I'd be able to pull the whole thing out through the smugglers box. I can lift it all up about 3 inches, but the line is snagged on something it seems. Not on the pan. I've seen others say remove the pan as it's hard to fish the lines through, others say cut the lines and you don't have to remove, so I'm confused.

All other lines, etc. is removed.

I left my lines under the steering rack pan, because I always have trouble reinstalling that pan. As such, when I removed the contents of the smugglers box, I simply cut the lines. Unfortunatly, I did it about 4 years ago so I forget how I did it, but it canbe done. Good luck.

BTW, did you happen to weigh all of the components, including the hoses? I did when I removed mine but I never wrote it down. I thought I remembered it being about 75 to 80lbs including the mounting brackets for the compressor.

Simple,
You need to remove the right side floorboard, and unhook the blower resistor, then you can pull the evaporator out. I lift the evap. fan and duct work in mine so I could have more fresh air forced into the cabin. You can remove every part of the AC system without cutting a single thing.
I scaled all the parts I pulled off my 82 and I had removed 78 lbs I think.

Yeah, the pan is a bit of a pain to get back into place.

I did undo the connection under the passenger floor board, so that's not what's holding it up. I can lift the evaporator all the way out.... almost. It's the bigger of the 2 lines going to the evaporator that gets hung up on something after about 2 - 3 inches of travel. If I could get that line off, I could probably life everything out of the box and see what the hose is hung up on.

I have all the parts, but have not weighed them yet. I'd add about 10lbs to the weight of the components for all the rocks and dirt that fall from behind the lines as well ;).

If I remember right from when I removed mine, you have to get under the car and disconnect the hardlines where the steering rack is. There is not alot of access in there and you basically have to sit there and turn the nut little by little.

There are two clamps by the rack on my 79, have to remove the pan to get to them. if you are not compressing the suspension on only one side the pan should go right back in. the bolts are also for the sway bar. Good luck

I removed my AC, but retained the blower in the smugglers box. It moves air better than my other blower. I did remove the housing from the smugglers box and pulled out the condenser and other plumbing leaving just the plastic housing ane blower.

Remove the pan. Like Crusty chief says, two clamps om each line before it comes up the smugglers box.

+1, easy as pie. BTW, you will want to fabricate plates to go over the opening left in the Smuggler's Box and the condensor fan in the trunk. I used plain ol' sheet metal and cut them to fit, did a little bending here and there and it wasn't too bad. Painted them black and installed with the original screws and some silicone.
