83 911sc slantnose headlight issue
 
I am having problems getting both headlights to sync up when they pop up. The right one won't come 100% up, then when you turn them off it finishes the cycle and stays a bit up. The motor is not getting a full 180 rotation on each power up or down. Played with the motors and linkages and believe there is a relay or timer elsewhere on the car that times the power supplied to the motor. I believe this because I used a multimeter at the relay in the bucket and it supplied voltage for maybe 2 seconds as they were turned on. Any ideas?

Porsche did not produce an '83 911 SC Slantnose. Maybe an aftermarket kit using Mazda headlights???

Yes must be a kit, don't know the exact history of the car. It has a motor for each headlight and they aren't german made motors. Still have any idea how or who makes such a kit?

My car has the mazda motor on each light. If your light goes up a little bit before it comes down, or comes up and little bit after it comes down, then it's the angle of the arm; which has teeth where it connect to the motor (there are 2 arms: one connect to the motor, and one connect to the headlight)
If you take the light top cover off, ask someone to keep turning the motor on and off, sitting there and watch how it works (up/down) for a long time, you will fingure it out.

Been playing with the motors for some time. I am possitive the motor is powered for 80% of the time it is supposed to. There has to be a timer somewhere that sends power to the motor till it spins 180 degrees.

The motors definately control when each headlight is supposed to stop at each 180 degree rotation. The relay supplies power to the motors till this happens. My mechanic wired a new 4 prong relay to replace the bosch relay that was there. Working fine now.
