Will I Be Able To Replace The Rear Shocks With The Engine & Trans Removed?
I believe my 23+ year old 911 has the original shocks and struts and hope to replace them over the winter.
Having never done this before I'm wondering whether I'll be able to replace the rear shocks with the engine and transmission out since the rear of the car is about 5" higher with the weight removed? It obviously looks like it will be simple to get to but I'm concerned that the shocks will not extend enough to connect both ends. Does anyone know for sure that the rears can or cannot be replaced with the engine and trans removed? Thanks. |
yes you can replace them with the engine and trans out, no problem.

No problem at all. You may need to jack the control arms up to meet the shock to put the bolt in but that's it.

Replacing shocks...
No problem... I just did last year... In fact it makes it a lot easier to get at the back mounting nuts.

By the way, my car, without the engine or transmission, is on a drive on lift so jacking the control arms will not change the distance between the upper and lower mounts. This is the primary reason I am asking the question.

When I put a jack on the control arms the entire rear lifted up due to absence of the engine. |
