If your material gets wet, any medium will do that. I use a lot of cheap play sand and throw it away. I'll use white silica sometimes, nice and sharp edges. The AL oxide stuff is good, but you pay. Beyond that, there are just too many to discuss. Keep it warm and dry and you should have no problems.

I use aluminum oxide for most of my stuff. it is a little harsh on nozzles but it works well for car parts.

I use silica sand, with no clog problems since I got a dessicant dryer on the air system.

I use glass bead... I had two water traps/filters and I still got clogged after a while... You know FL air so dry... what helped is my compressor died so I had to buy a new one. then I put the old tank, with no compressor on it, in line with the new compressor so I essentially have a extra 35 gallon storage tank acting like a dryer separator / water condenser. Problems went away and the air is pretty dry now. Do not forget to drain the tanks of water using the bottom stop cock! I get a lot of water out of them every time.

I use the fine black beauty slag, bought at tru-value. I have a blast cabinet and pressure blaster. Never had a problem clogging. I use ceramic nozzles and sift the slag after blasting heavy rust or painted parts. I bet you are getting clogs from restriction in the line or nozzle. You have to sift the slag or sand frequently. Don't like to use sand unless you have a seperate air supplied mask. Silicosis is a problem when the sand breaks down into fine dust and you breath it into your lungs. Bad news. Where in upstate NY are you? I live in Oneida..

sand blasting cloging

I had the same problem, till I went to our local sandblasting supply place and discussed my problem.
I have one of those cheap china cabinets from Princess Auto / same as Harbour freight

I was told I should just shove a 3/8 hose down the shoot where the sand enters the pick up hose and bring it up to the top of the cabinet. That way the venture effect sucks in some air and mixes with the sand. No more clogs.

i'm blasting outdoors (no cabinet). with black diamond. the particles seem to be jagged and they seem to be all different sizes. i think they are jamming up at the ceramic nozzle on my pressure blaster.

i 'm going to pick up some black beauty monday. i think the media is more consistent and not as jagged. we shall see.
i live near saratoga
