My G-50 shifter weekend nightmare!
So I took the car apart thinking I would have a broken cup or something in there as the shifter has a tonne of play. What I found was the thread of the bolt that joints the shifter to the shift rod was snapped at the thread... wow. Anyway so I get it all apart and go about drilling the thread out of the shift rod in the tans tunnel, insert my easy-out, a little pressure and SNAP! Now I have an easy out head buried in the snapped bold in the shift rod! I thought I'd rotate the rod and tackle it from the other side but it wont rotate that much as it has a kink in the rod, not enough room. Looks like engine drop.... Oh man!!

I'm not missing something am I, you can't remove the shift rod without dropping the engine right? So frustrated right now!

You can do a partial engine drop without disconnecting the shift rod. I would only come down enough to clear the tunnel, maybe 3-4 inches? What kind of easy-out broke with "a little pressure"? Can you weld an extension onto the broken easy-out/bolt? An arc welder can do it just by turning it on with the connection made. Be sure to attach the ground close to the action. You don't want any transmission gears welded together.
Good Luck, Mark

thanks Porsha911, I am doing a drop this weekend to get out the rod.
lucittm, not sure what you mean by doing a partial drop with the rod connected, I need to get the rod out... I decided to not do any welding in there, a. not experienced enough and being near a fuel line is just to scary for me!

In a partial engine drop, you disconnect about half the stuff that you would normally disconnect. You loosen the two rear engine mounts and then drop the front (transmission) mount about 4". That will give you the clearance you need to remove the rod from the transmission shift shaft.
You ride an Aprilia and you are scared of a little flames from a fuel line, now I'm confused?

hahaha, nice fuel fire reference! That only happens when Americans ride Aprilias!
Oh man, that's great news!!! so only about 4 inches will give me enough room to pull it, you just made my day! I wonder what I do and don't have to disconnect. I spose a good look should reveal that.
