Sunroof deflector
Car is 79 SC, sunroof deflector will not automatically flip up when sunroof retracted. Have tried relieving the possible binding edges at the hinges and along the front lower edges, various lubricants at the hinges, threatening, etc., etc.. Anybody else have this prooblem and how is it fixed? It will flip up easily when I reach up and give an assist. Thanks Lynn

They are spring loaded so would normally spring up when the top is open. If you pull the front deflector off, you should be able to tell whether the springs are broken or the hinges are binding.
Careful, they are nla and used ones can be pricey. |

sunroof deflector
Thanks, have had the entire deflector off, springs appear good, I have concluded that maybe the springs only appear good and may be weak and need replacing. Any idea where to get them without the spendy deflector? Lynn

Spring up automatically! Wow I thought you were supposed to reach up and lift it every time!
I better look for springs!

I used to have the same problem. I took it all apart (including the vanes) used some steel wool to really clean (& inherantly polish) up everything (then used a real mild emery cloth to smooth out the finish on all pieces) then re-assembled while lubricating everything with some light/thin type oil (for assembly) and when it was installed I lubed it again with the same type of oil (all the while paying special attention to the springs) making sure they're not rusty or seized up. Now my deflector works puuuurfect! I don't know, but I hope yor springs are in decent shape so everything plays out like it did for me.

WOW... it got me thinking, so I went to check on mine because I had never really noticed it. Turns out I don't have one. I guess the PO took it off and it got lost. I don't think there is much draft with the top open without it. Seems I may have to keep it like this if the parts are hard to come by. Wonder if there are more without the deflector?
Good luck with it. Cheers, Emerald

Because of the roof line of the 911 the back of the sunroof opening is lower than the front so the deflector is really unnecessary. My 78 doesn't have one and open at 70mph it's more quiet than my other cars with deflectors.
