Functional a/c remove '83 cab?
Now I know the '83 cab is no real money maker, but numbers are numbers, platinum metallic/cork/black with the later carrera case make it a little different than your standard car. The a/c works but I want to remove for weight, no other reason. If I save all components "removed" will I suffer on selling the car later? Currently no intention to sell, by the way it only has about 22k on the odo. I love the car just would love to drop some lbs in different areas of the car w/o comprimising the sale. Would love to drop about 300lb's on different endeavors, I think the a/c complete will get me 1/2 way there. No track ideas just leaving the solid updated 3.0, tensioners, SSI, etc in place. Just don't use the a/c, the roof is always down when not in storage. I would like to clean up the engine compartment, enhance performance and not lower a future sale.

In review I belives with all components remove should be about 75lbs. for the a/c?

You will not hurt the value if you can put it back afterwards as if it were never removed. Otherwise you will sigificantly decrease the value to many buyers. If I were buying a 911 without AC...I would deduct at least the $5k it would cost me parts/labor to have one installed...probably more for your car because it is an all-original 22K mile car.

Dunno about YOUR A/C. But mine was an aftermarket POS and it hit the ocean hard and sank quickly.....never to be seen again.

On a cab, given how well an 83's AC works anyway (the squirrel breathing on an ice cube analogy), I'd probably ditch it... It's not all that easy to remove it without damaging stuff, I mean there are hoses you'll probably end up cutting because they are hard to uncouple...
I did it on my (also) 83 platinum (ex cork) Coupé and have never missed it, the engine is cleaner, the car is lighter - though truth be told, it's not all that obvious of a performance gain ! But I am sure it is there somewhere... |
I removed the A/C from my 86 Carrera because it wasn't working at all - needed new hoses - and I didn't need it anyway.
However, I would NEVER think of removing a working A/C system. You will definitely lose resale value, and will turn off some buyers completely. |
