sarri66, you can't just "replace" the shifter coupling, you have to go through the very simple but very crucial coupler-adjustment procedure. Guaranteed, if you just slap the new coupler in pretty much where the old one was, you'll find yourself unable to shift into certain gears. Approximately marking the location of the old coupling and matching the new one to it won't work either, and "trial and error" is a lousy way to set up the shifter.

Do a search for the proper procedure. It's simple, though it needs to be done precisely, and it's crucial. Takes about 15 minutes, including buttoning everything back up.

Thank you for sharing Formerly Steve... I am doing the shifter job now too. The Bentley manual describes the adjustment procedure. Did you see my post today? I have to install new shifter coupling sleeves, since I didn't buy the whole coupling. I will definitely be performing the shift adjustment, after reading the advice here. I was planning to put it back the way it was without adjusting first. We always hope for the easier softer way.
