good spot to pull 12 volts?
Hi folks, I need to find a good place to pull a 12 volt feed from, I don't need lots of current but I want to avoid hack job wiring that looks nasty and might give me corrosion problems etc.
I have highlighted the general area I need to voltage feed from, I only need it when the ignition/engine is on, am I better off running a wire over to the left hand side to the fuse panel? Thanks! ![]() ![]()

12 Volts
I am not aware of any switchable(hot only when ignition is "ON") 12 Volt source in the engine compartment. I have looked at all the electrical schematics in the Bentley Manual. There are three live (hot all the time) 12V sources on the left side fuse panel. You can tap into the 12V from the accessory heater fan but this ia only hot when the heater is turned on. If anyone out there know of any switchable 12V source in the engine bay let me know, I need one.
Thanks Mark

I think I will use one of the three hot supplies on the left and then use a solid state switch when the ignition is on (I have a low volt supply when the ign is on).

Yeah, a supper charger, that's the ticket. I've heard of people with "conventional" engines poaching a fish wrapped in aluminum foil on the exhaust manifold. Is that Dinner, or Supper, I'm not sure...

I tapped into the starter lug to feed the new panel.

or you could use a regular mech. relay - a stock round one for example.
so... is it time for our first hint yet? - how many amps will it pull?? |

The coil and the O2 sensor both have switched +12 volts in the engine compartment. It comes off the second stage of the DME relay and it hot during cranking and during the engine running.
Also the fuel pump but that is under the car. If it was me I would tap into the O2-sensor harness since the voltage from the coil will have more high-frequency distortion. Ingo
