What's happened here, is this safe?

I was under the car for a routine inspection and noticed the front stabiliser bar is not evenly positioned in the mounting brackets, looks like it's being forced to one side. I had the front bushes replaced 2 years ago and my mechanic would not have done this. Anyone got some ideas, is this safe to drive? I've got the car on stands and I cannot see anything strange with the stabiliser bar or attachments.

Not unsafe but it should be remedied.

Just your front sway bar - and they are a pain to muscle back through. I would see if you can even it back out.

Front sway bar alignment.......

Shane,

Remove the skid plate and loosen the two (2) clamps under the car. Push (use rubber mallet) the end that's protruding until they even up. Then re-align the clamps/brackets accordingly and torque them correctly. Install cover/skid plate and you're done!!!! HTH.

with the bar in that position, you effectively have a different spring rate in the two front corners.

as mentioned above, loosen, lube, and re-position (big troubles if you manage to pull it all the way out by mistake - be careful)

I think you are seeing just the tip of the problem.

There is no way that sway bar is in that position, unless the swaybar-to-chassis mounts are bent/missing.

Take off the front suspension lower cover plate and inspect those mounts.

I bet 1AUS dollar that at least one of the mounts are missing.

Is it possible that your mechanic used the wrong size mounts for the s bar?
When I did mine last spring, the two different mounts looked identical, mine was a couple of mm smaller. I wonder if that is why it is walking....
