tip for worn turn signal switch... will not stay activated to right or left...

I don't know if this is a common situation, but the turn signal switch on this RS would not stay activated in the right turn position...and I was able to improve it without too much trouble.

Maybe this will help someone, as I believe the switches are unavailable. I haven't seen it posted before.

Obviously the cause of the problem is simply 45 yrs of use, but, as I said, the turn signal would not stay activated when making a right turn... left was fine. Also I didn't want to get involved in disassembling the whole switch... drilling out the rivets etc.

After careful observation I located the areas involved in causing the switch to catch in the "on" position... right or left. Then, by simply removing the larger spring I was able to access one side of the contact area in question and apply a slight filing to the area.

It would have been nice to access to corresponding contact area, but that would require disassembling the switch.

Anyway the result is a vast improvement, as now the switch will stay activated until the steering wheel spins back around after the turn is complete... as it should.

I neglected to take pictures but I did draw up a quick sketch to illustrate the area in question.

The areas where I applied the file is highlighted in RED.

The RED area on the left in my diagram ( on top when installed in the car) is the one associated with a right turn. The Red area on the right in my diagram( on the bottom when installed in the car) is associated with a left turn.
I filed BOTH, LIGHTLY... just to be sure

Well... my initial optimism was maybe a little too soon....

Actually there is an improvement, but maybe not enough to write Pelican (home) about.
I still think it was worth the effort, and if I get a chance I will try to improve it more and keep you posted...

I guess my shining contribution to the board will have to wait.

This switch has many problems. Do a search and be sure to read this thread: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/248149-turn-signal-switch-quick-fix-pictures.html
