Help! (Frequency Valve on SC)?

Here is the story. I just put my motor back in my 81 911 SC after detailing it(It looks great). And having the car repainted. The car only sat up for 8 months and ran beautiful before the motor was out. Now with the motor in it ran like crap when cold and not so good warm either, so I took it to my Automotive tech. friend, after testing the car he is telling me the frequency valve is bad. Where is it and what does it look like? He is telling me that the motor has to be dropped to put in the new frequency valve. AHHHH $1200 later. Any advice would be great.

make sure the relay that operates the lamda system is ok. if the lamda computer is not turned on, the frequency valve will not work. the relay and computer are under the passenger seat. the relay gets it's power from the domelight fuse. $1200? new tech time. ripoff!

I was under the impression that the SC's did not have computers. Everything was mechanical. And the box under pass. seat was the the curise control unit. Am I wrong?

80-83 US SC's had the K-lambda system with the lambda controller under the passenger seat, and an 02 sensor. Earlier SC's and ROW SC's had the K-basic system without the 02 sensor.

The box under the passenger seat is the computer for the K-Jetronic w/ Lambda fuel injection. Just on the '80 - 83 SCs (which have oxygen sensors), I believe.

Whoa! Those were eerily similar replies that we apparently wrote simultaneously...

On the Freq valve, there is a multi pin connection in the motor compartment. Maker sure that it is not lose. Also, with the ignition on and the engine off, you should here a humming sound in the back center of the motor btwn the 2 rear shocks.

Also, I think you can lower the motor enough so that you can replace the valve but still have most things connected.

I beat you by two minutes.

BTW,
real Porsches don't have computers!!!
