Is The Date Of Manufacture On The Sticker On the Drivers Door Jam Accurate?
I plan to replace the front shock inserts over the winter. Since my car is a 1985 I
need to determine whether the car was built 3/85 and prior, or subsequent to 3/85 because there are two different shocks listed depending on the date of manufacture. The date on my sticker in the left door jam is 01/1985. Can I rely on that date on the sticker as being accurate? Or have others found discrepancies with it? Thanks

I have never heard of a manufacturing date discrepancy with the door jamb sticker although Porsche did sometimes spec different parts during a model year. In your case I would buy the best shock suited to how you drive the car not necessarily what came OEM.

I'm not that familiar with '85 model year cars but I thought inserts were determined by the strut body not the model year. If you know which strut bodies you have that may help. I am most familiar with Bilstein which are green. I beleive the Boge are black and the Koni are yellow but don't quote me on that.
Any idea which ones you have?

I'm pretty sure it is accurate.

Scratch what I said...I went to PelicanParts and looked at available shocks...you must already know that you have Boge strut bodies since there are two for that strut body only. Learn something new everyday.

some have internal threads and some have external, is what the issue is. raise the front so the shocks are fully extended and you will be able to see the top of the strut, under the upper dust collar. external threaded struts have a large cap nut with a wide side and you can also see some threads below it on the strut. internal is smooth all the way up and you will see the thin edge of the internal nut on top.
