Bill Verburg posted this information in the past:

oem limiter specs
930/03 & 13 6800+/-200
930/04 & 05 & 15 & 06 6700+300
930/07 & 08 & 16 & 17 6500+200

Robert, if your cabriolet has its stock 930/16 engine, your rev limiter (the black box under the far left of the dash) should have cut off the fuel pump at 6,500-6,700 RPM.

Brian (who has never approached a rev limiter cutoff) ;)

I ran my stock 3.0L up to about 7800 RPM once.

Now it's built to 8.2k and I run it to 7200.

That one valve does look a little out of skew. ;)

9K or so on a missed shift. I won't post the pick of the six bent exhaust valves... very similar to the pic above, but thankfully no other damage.

About 3 times (or did you mean RPMs instead of Dollars)...

Looks like a bent exhaust valve that took out the guide. Those are really bent or my astigmatism is really bad!

Back when dinosaurs trod the earth, I was able to talk a buddy into swapping P-cars for the drive from Mobile to Talledega. He "got" to sheppard my '57 1600 normal speedster, and I was forced to drive his '56ish 1500 Carrera with four cams, two mags, dual spark plugs (absolutely unreachable)no sound deadening, plastic windows with leather straps for regulators.
Redline as I recall was just over 8,000, something I never reached due to the NOISE, the aggravating part was the GREEN line of 4,000. Drive under 4 for ANY time, and you found yourself on the side of the road, employing a cable ratchet extension device to attempt to pull all 8 plugs. In first, the Tunnel traffic was moving at less than 3,000. He was screaming "Blip it!!!" As I coasted to a stop at the bottom of Bankhead tunnel.
I wonder if it would seem as torrid today...seems like the Speedster had 60hp and the Carrera 120...about half what a really healthy VW will do.

Factory redline on an early S is 7300...

It is indeed and I`ve been up to the limiter a few times...... but looking at these photos, perhaps not so often from now on :)

Mike.
