Don't know on big bumper cars but on my early cars, it connected to a bolt that holds the rear bumper to the chassis. Is your wire long enough to hang down behind the assembly and wrap under the bumper? If not, then maybe the clip nut is the place.
Sorry I couldn't be more of a help.

As Ossiblue said, it's the bumper mounting bolt. The rear most 8mm bolt holding the bumperette to the tub. Goes in vertically. The tail light ground should have the typical 8mm ring type terminal.

thanks - it is an early car - a 1973 - and it does have the ring terminal.
there is no bumper mounts left on this car - the FG bumper is mounted w/o the steel supports the clip nuts for the tail light housings are all painted over,s o that wouldn't have worked - hence my query I'll look around for a suitable place to install them |

How is the glass bumper mounted? Is it using the 8mm mounting holes in the under side of the tub? If so, you could probably still use the bolt with a washer and get a ground. If they're not being used you could just bolt directly in. Somehow as I type this, I get the feeling that if this were feasible you would already have done it. How about one of the 8mm motor mount bolts from the under side? Joe

it's feasible -- I had glued and driven some plastic plugs into those M8 holes but I'll spend some more time on the cold concrete floor....
