Porker 111:

If you have shop experience, my guess is that a Carrera 3.2 would be a piece of cake for you to work on. I came into Porsche ownership with little experience or skill. With the help of some amazing people on this BBS, my car (and I) have survived nearly 6 years of driving, maintaining, and modifying with only 1 trip to a "real" mechanic for a corner balance and alignment.

Just look through the myriad of posts here and you will see an impressive number of DIYer's and enablers. I am literally blown away by the talent and commitment that some of our members have.

For most of us, that Pelican logo is kind of a badge of honor!

I am an amateur and work on my 911 for a hobby. I could take the engine out of my 1982 (previous car) using a floor jack and a pair of jack stands in about 3 hours. I haven't had a reason to remove the engine from my 1988 yet. I'm betting someone with mechanic experience would be faster.

Granted, you don't need a Hoist and there's no coolant to contend with, I guess maybe that's what people are fired up about. I can pull an engine out of a '66 Mustang in less than 40 minutes. Personally, I'd rather pull an engine than drop it.

I always think it's funny when people say "It's only four bolts" to remove a 911 engine. You may as well say "it's only one bolt" -- Just start counting at the last step rather than the fourth-to-last step if you are going to pick an arbitrary point in the process.

I'm not trying to be inflammatory, just relating my opinion.

Looks like porker never got into 911 DIY.
vreference's comment above was a breath of objectivity.
