Please !!Need help with Distributor

Hi Lads,

I have been trying to get the car running perfect over the last few days, I have just installed the rebuilt WUR and the AAV is workin g correctly also, takes abouts 15 mins to close,
I then noticed there was no vacum on the distributor, so i went & ordered one and today i went to install this, the 2 plates were "brazed" together !!, i took them out and 2 things/yolks/ whatever ya call them ! are moving ok, (in other word i can twist the rotor and it springs back)
So i rocked the car to get it to TDC and then took out the distributor, gave it a cleaning etc.... installed the vacum.... then got the rotor as close to the notch as i could, doubled checked i was at TDC and gave it a little thighing up,
Now as i was trying to start it it was Farting !! backfiring !!, i stopped put the car to TDC & checked the rotor and it was ok, checked leads too and ok,
Went at it again and the pop off valve goes about 200 yards towards space !!!!!
(it was glued)
Now i take off distributor cap, rock the car to TDC and the rotor is 180 out ???? its facing in the opposite direction,
Dont know what to do at this stage as nobody here in Ireland is well up on these cars, i have got all my info from here, i would be lost without this fourm,
So at the moment i wait for the glue to set and ill tackle it again in the morning,

Can anybody tell me why this is out ???:confused:

sounds like it's simply 180° out. find #1 TDC by either removing the upper left rocker cover and checking that #1 intake rocker has clearance when the pulley is @ Z1, or use a compression tester rubber extension hose in the #1 plug hole and turn the rengine by hand until you feel pressure with your finger on the hose and continue turning a bit until Z1. then see if the distributor rotor points to the notch for #1. year of the car is always helpful.

I dont get it...... when installing the distributor, i thought you put it to TDC, and the rotor in line with the notch ??
