Central New Jersey - Leak Down

Does any one know of a knowledgeable shop in the central New Jersey area that can perform a leakdown test? I have a 1987 911 that I getting prepared to do an engine rebuild, but I would like to know before I tear into it exactly where it is weak? I know I have low compression in cyl #1 and she uses to much oil.

Thanks all!

Try Bodymotion in Ocean, NJ. Their number is (732) 493-2700. They just rebuilt my 87's engine (one quart of oil every 250 miles). I'm very happy with the work they do, and they are very pleasant people to deal with.

Just curious - at 250 miles per quart are you seeing blue smoke on accel or decel or on start-up?
Do you notice any loss of power?

I had smoke at start-up, but I really didn't notice it any other time. My valve guides were shot. I had the guides replaced, the cylinders re-honed, and new rings installed. I did notice an improvement in performance after the rebuild - the engine now runs crisp and is more willing to rev. Much more fun to drive.

I'm thinking it may run even nicer with a new cat - one without burnt oil in it. (Even better still with one of Ben's pre-mufflers and a SW chip. Just add them to the list.)

Thanks, KOH.
By how much did your oil consumption improve?
Significantly, I hope.
I am anxiously watching mine, hoping to put off a rebuild for as long as possiible.

craigyirush,

So far, I don't seem to be burning any oil. During the 1000 mile break-in I occasionally had a puff of smoke at start-up, but the dip-stick reading barely moved (which is subject to operator interpretation in my novice case).

I only have 500 miles miles on the engine since the 1000 mile re-torque (with oil change obviously), but now there is no smoke what so ever at start-up, and the dip-stick hasn't moved at all.
